CORNWALL’S CREALY GREAT ADVENTURE PARK – CORNWALL VISITOR ATTRACTION OF THE YEAR SHIRE HORSE FOAL BORN AT CORNWALL’S CREALY
Cornwall’s Crealy Great Adventure Park is celebrating the birth of the Park’s first Shire foal of 2006. Visitors to Cornwall’s Crealy can enter a competition to name the new foal, born on Monday. Names for all animals born at Cornwall’s Crealy this year, must begin with ‘L’.
The filly foal was born to Cornwall’s Crealy bay Shire, Efie and to Shire stallion, Sladbrook Sensation who was purchased by the Park last year from one of the country’s top Shire horse judges.
Shire Horses are recognised as an endangered breed and experts warn that there are not enough mares to replace those dying from old age.
Cornwall’s Crealy started life as the Cornish Shire Horse Park and continues the tradition of Shire Horse breeding to this day. The Park continues an exceptional breeding programme for the Shire Horse mares. Shires can weigh up to a ton, stand between 16.2 and 18 hands high and were traditionally used as working horses.
Angela Wright, MBE, Managing Director said, “ We are very proud of the Park’s Shire Horse heritage and have a breeding programme in place which will hopefully add further to the number of Shires in the UK. Our new filly will remain with us in Cornwall, to continue the tradition. “
