A Name for the Amusment Industry’s New Friend

The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) is pleased to announce its new mascot has been named “Stubs.” As a mascot for IAAPA’s consumer website, www.TicketForFun.com, “Stubs”—a character that is literally the shape of a ticket fashioned with a big smile and athletic shoes—will serve as the website’s ambassador of fun.

Meet “Stubs”, a new friend families can find at ticketforfun.com - the amusement industry’s official resource to fun!

“Stubs was designed to give Ticket For Fun.com a fun and exciting personality,” said J. Clark Robinson, IAAPA President and CEO. “We are extremely happy with the success of the website and hope that “Stubs” will intrigue more families and children to find out how Ticket For Fun.com can help their travels to amusement parks and attractions.”

“Stubs’s” name was derived from a contest held Fall 2005. A call for entries went out to children ages 5-12 worldwide, which received a variety of names from Fundoo, Chip the Ticket, Tico, Billy Billet and more.

The final selection of the name took place at the IAAPA Attractions Expo 2005, held November 14-19, 2005, in Atlanta, Georgia. More than 22,000 attendees, made up of amusement park and attractions professionals from around the world, were presented a few names and asked to select their favorite name choice. Only one prevailed—“Stubs”.

Submitted by 12-year-old Michelle Viljoen of Sterling, Virginia, USA, “Stubs” is now the official name of “the big ticket” at www.TicketForFun.com. Viljoen chose the name “Stubs” because it reflects the appearance of the mascot as a ticket stub.

On Ticket For Fun.com visitors won’t be surprised to find the energetic new host, “Stubs,” everywhere on the site because he loves to jump from activity to activity including bumper car rides, dolphin shows, candy stores and more. The website also offers a worldwide directory of amusement parks, safety tips, fun facts and more.

In October 2005, www.TicketForFun.com also debuted a games page intended for children or parent’s to print out worksheets to take on the road. The game pages include options like a maze, riddles or word find and are the perfect solution to filling empty time for the restless traveling child.
